Children's natural pleasure in rhythm is picked up and extended in the nursery by opportunities to:

  • experiment individually with sound-making equipment.
  • join together to sing songs and learn rhymes.
  • listen to songs and musical instruments.
  • move in response to music.

As your child does this, the fun of making music encourages them to:

  • listen carefully.
  • hear and enjoy the songs of more than one culture in a group activity.
  • learn to share.
  • understand more about language by hearing and responding to rhyme.
