Our free flow system allows children to enjoy outdoor and indoor play which promotes positive independence and decision making. We know through research that children thrive in an outdoor environment, so we are continuously developing out outdoor space to achieve the most beneficial environment for learning through play. For example, using our woodwork expertise, we have handmade a welly boot wall with benches for the children to sit on. This provides a level of independence, allowing our children to dress themselves appropriately for the rain, snow or frost.
Kids Capers staff have had extensive training in the outdoors including Beach School & Forest School. Follow the buttons below to find out more about how we incorporate local outings, trips, woodwork and our firepit area into our day to day practice.
We like to ensure we make the most of the warmer weather, when it comes around, we often set up for our children to eat al fresco as much as possible, for snack and lunch times.
We have a mini adventure playground where all children can challenge their physical development and a mud kitchen where children can create homemade mud pies and use natural resources as a tasty addition.

"Children giggle with delight as they play alongside their friends. They put on their own puddle suits and enjoy spending time outside in all weathers. For example, children scoop water from puddles and chase each other excitedly. Staff observe children's play and use their observations to plan activities that will support children's learning and development"

Our homemade, purpose built mud kitchen is the perfect space for our children to cook up a storm using natural materials such as pine cones, leaves, mud and real life, authentic resources too, including a microwave, weighing scales and kitchen utensils. Although we may not always want to eat the treats the children cook up, practitioners are always on hand to support children's learning opportunities.
