Exploring Our Outdoor Spaces

Encouraging outdoor play gives your child the opportunity to learn and grow in a healthy way by contributing to a healthy weight and improving bone health. It benefits their physical and cognitive development as well as boosting their self-esteem, self-confidence, resilience, social interaction and cooperation, and promoting a positive attitude to learning.

Our garden provides endless opportunities for outdoor learning and play. Each room has a dedicate outdoor space with access to all other areas of the garden. This stimulating and safe environment encourages exploration and promotes independence and decision-making, allowing children to explore, participate in games, use basic tools, and take acceptable risks. From group activities to quiet reflection, the garden fosters a deep connection with nature and a love for the outdoors.

Adventure Play

Children enjoy playing in our adventure play area with its small but significant range of wooden apparatus for climbing and balancing.

The equipment supports children’s development by strengthening muscles, improving gross motor skills, enhancing balance and coordination, fostering problem-solving, and boosting confidence.

Our Mud Kitchen

Our mud kitchen is the perfect space for our children to cook up a storm using natural materials such as pine cones, leaves, mud and real life, authentic resources too, including a microwave, weighing scales and kitchen utensils. Although we may not always want to eat the treats the children cook up, practitioners are always on hand to support children's learning opportunities.

Our Sandpit

Sand acts as a blank canvas for children’s imagination and creativity. Our large walk-in sand pit provides plenty of opportunity for children to have fun while they dig, pour and create using a range of equipment from buckets and spades, diggers, small world creatures, and natural resources.

Water Play

Being outdoors allows children to partake in a wider range of interactive water play activities. Whether they are using our water cascade, water tray, tuff trays or simply watering the plants, the learning  opportunities are extensive. Water play is more than just fun; it's a vital part of developmental learning.

Water is naturally soothing and can be therapeutic for children as it can provide a calming experience that helps reduce stress and boost the mood. Manipulating water helps children develop precision in their fine motor skills as they pour, scoop and splash water.

Gardening and Growing

Our growing area allows children to try their hand at gardening; planting seeds and watching them grow into flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables.

Not only does this support their development of scientific knowledge and sensory experiences, but it also encourages children to try new foods and acquire new vocabulary.

Our Fire Pit

An addition to our wonderful garden space is our designated fire pit area with our BBQ style fire and pizza oven. Alongside our Forest School Leader, children can toast their own snacks, bake pizza or use the Kelly Kettle to make hot chocolate and warm apple juice.

The fire pit promotes a magnitude of learning for the children including, respecting rules and boundaries, and cause and effect of elements. It also helps children to have trust in their abilities whilst building upon their self-esteem and confidence as they are introduced to new experiences.
